Facing the Challenges of Being a Single Mom
Life can be tough for a single mom, especially if your kids are going through teen issues. There will be times when parenting on your own will make you feel lonely and overwhelmed.
The Internal Battle of the Single Parent: This Wasn’t The Life You Wanted
One of the hardest aspects of being a single mom is facing the fact that your life did not go the way you wanted. Most of us are conditioned from a young age to believe that we’ll all find the right man and live happily ever after, but that sometimes isn’t the case.
The longer you cling to anger, the more difficult it will be to move forward. Try to release your anger at how things have gone and be open to a new future. You never know when you might meet the future stepfather to your children. Try to keep an open heart and happy attitude. Your strength will inspire teen self esteem in your kids.
Facing the Harsh Truth: You’re Losing Your Sense of Self
Having and raising a child alone can lead you to lose your identity completely. You’re trying to fulfill the duties of both parents, which often leaves you with little time to nurture your connection to yourself.
Self-care is important. You wouldn’t get in the car and expect it to get you to your destination when the tank is empty, would you? If the answer is no, then you shouldn’t expect to handle parenting troubles without taking care of yourself. Try to devote 15 minutes or more a day to meditation, yoga, a hot bath or simply sitting down to relax and think. This practice will rejuvenate you and provide you with more energy to give back to your family.
